OHSE managementThe OHS policy committee and environment policy committeeThe Occupational Health and Safety Policy Committee (OHSPC) and the Environment Policy Committee report directly to the Vice-Chancellor and are made up of staff, management and student representatives. The terms of reference of these committees are primarily to review the University's OHS and environmental performance and its compliance with legislation, standards and codes. The committees also formulate and review policies to ensure that a uniform approach to health, safety and environmental management is adopted throughout all Monash campuses. OHSE zones and zone committeesMonash University campuses are divided into OHSE zones, and each zone is represented by a zone committee. The committees are made up of management and staff representatives drawn from the various work areas within the zone. Where appropriate, they also include student representation. The committees' main responsibilities lie in the implementation of OHSE policies and procedures, the formulation of local health and safety practices, and the promotion of OHSE within their zone. The committees also investigate accidents and hazards, coordinate first aid services, and conduct emergency evacuation drills. In each area, one or more safety officers are available to assist staff and students in dealing with OHSE issues and problems. Where other special OHSE hazards exist, these officers may include radiation safety officers, biosafety officers and laser safety officers. Contact details for these officers can be found at the OHSE website. |
