Balancing work, study and family
In 1996, Monash University Council endorsed a policy on work, study and family responsibilities. This policy recognises that provision for students and staff with family responsibilities is a fundamental prerequisite for achieving educational and employment opportunity.
The Family and Child Care Service is a University-funded department created for the benefit of Monash students and staff and their families, and is available by appointment at the Caulfield, Clayton, Peninsula, Berwick, Gippsland and Parkville campuses. It is the first point of contact for students and staff seeking child care or wishing to discuss any aspect of child or family welfare, and provides students and staff with information and advice on:
- linking into Monash-related and other child care centres
- up-to-date computerised information on children's services throughout Victoria
- accessing information on child care options on-campus and elsewhere
- accessing the Koonawarra Playgroup
- parenting, work, study and family issues and resources
- referral to on-campus counselling services
- enrolling into the Clayton campus school holiday program (for primary school aged children)
- family benefits, entitlements and rebates
- elder care and carers resources
- parenting programs
- breastfeeding information
