Requesting formal University letters

Student letters

A Student Letter is a formal document from the University to verify your current enrolment, qualification or graduation etc. A Student Letter may be required by a third party such as government institutions like Centrelink or the relevant department of immigration in your country of enrolment, and employers. All applications for student letters must be lodged by the student. A fee is usually charged for the production of each letter.

Although most letters can be produced immediately, the production of a Student Letter can take five to 10 working days if course completion or verification of your record is required.

The current list of available student letters for coursework and some research students includes those covering the following topics:

  • approved under load enrolment
  • confirmation of prior hecs place
  • confirmation of prior pels liability
  • enrolment verification
  • estimated living expenses
  • forecast completion date
  • proof of qualification
  • proof of graduation
  • proof of attendance at a future graduation ceremony
  • permanent residency application enrolment verification
  • international student release.

How to request a letter

Coursework students apply online via the Web Enrolment System (WES) - payment must be made by credit card - or you can visit a Student Service Centre at any campus, or mail or fax a request to the Student Service Centre, including a cheque made payable to Monash University.

Research students undertaking doctoral and MPhil studies should consult the Monash Research Graduate School if they require a short letter to confirm candidature and/or research scholarship details.
