Getting online at Monash

Your Authcate account and Novell access

As a Monash student you are granted a computer account, called an Authcate account. This is your main access to the University information technology facilities.

What does my computer account allow me to do?

Your Authcate account enables you to access the Monash website and other resources which are protected by a password including:

  • electronic services on the campus network system (the Novell system)
  • computers and software in the computer labs
  • the Monash wireless network (Monash-Wireless-Net)
  • online enrolment facility
  • your `Enrolment details and fee statement' (Fees invoice)
  • exam results
  • library resources
  • protected internet resources such as Monash web pages and newsgroups
  • your Monash email (WebMail)
  • the my.monash portal
  • Monash University Studies Online (MUSO), including lecture notes
  • other computer systems if required by the units you are studying.

Access to your Authcate account is subject to a University policy called the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Facilities by Students (see section 2). This policy includes information regarding internet usage and copyright infringement. While setting up your account, you will be asked to read the terms and conditions of this policy and agree to them. It is essential that all students understand their obligations in regard to this policy, as failure to comply can result in disciplinary action.

You can set up your Authcate computer account online by going to http://www.monash.edu.au/students/computer and selecting the `Register for a new account' link.

Setting up your email account

Access to email is available as soon as you set up your Authcate account. Monash uses an email system called WebMail which allows you to access your Monash emails from a computer on the internet anywhere in the world.

Accessing your email is simple and is available through https://mail.monash.edu.au or the my.monash portal. It is an essential requirement that you check your Monash email account on a regular basis (at least weekly). All students agree to this requirement when they enrol and re-enrol.

Using my.monash

The University-wide intranet portal, my.monash, provides all students, whether on-campus, at home or work, with an immediate gateway to Monash's online resources, including lectures, study timetables, library resources and email. To login go to my.monash.edu.au or follow the links from the Monash homepage at http://www.monash.edu.au
