Attendance
Attendance is not a requirement for all students depending on your mode of study and course, however in some cases class attendance is compulsory and may even form a component of your assessment. If you are studying on-campus, it is your responsibility to attend lectures or access lecture materials and participate in tutorials and seminars for each unit in which you are enrolled. During the course of your studies you will be examined on what you learn. Some of the knowledge you will need to successfully undertake assessments will be provided during different sorts of class, studio, laboratory or field-based teaching sessions.
Attendance at tutorials is regarded as important and in some units may be taken into account in assessing your performance for the year. Attendance at practical classes is often compulsory. A minimum level of attendance may be a hurdle requirement for course progression (please check the unit guide).
If you are studying as an off-campus student, it is your responsibility to consider thoroughly all course materials and participate in all prescribed residential schools. It is also your responsibility to check to see if your units have any residential learning component or other attendance requirement.
If you are a research student, you are expected to attend University and meet your supervisor regularly, and to participate in any seminar programs required by your faculty.
Faculty of Art and Design
Coursework students are expected to attend not less than 80 per cent of the scheduled class sessions for each unit.
Faculty of Business and Economics
Coursework students are expected to attend not less than 80 per cent of the scheduled class sessions for each unit.
Faculty of Engineering
Coursework students should note that attendance at practical classes is compulsory. You may be refused admission to the examinations in a unit if the requirements for attendance have not been satisfied.
Victorian College of Pharmacy
Students are expected to attend no less than 80 per cent of their practical classes and some units 100 per cent. Students will be advised of the attendance requirements by the Unit coordinators at the commencement of the units that have practical classes.
Off-campus learning students
Attendance is compulsory for courses that are laboratory-based or require group interaction. These courses include, but are not restricted to, studies in biology, chemistry and physics (from second year), engineering, medicine, visual arts studio units, psychology, social welfare and social work.
