Rights

You have the right to advocacy in any disciplinary, grievance or other procedure. A number of University policies protect the rights of students, such as:

  • The Student Representation and Consultation Policy acknowledges students have a significant contribution to make to the development of educational programs, and outlines instructions to faculties to provide avenues to ensure that there are effective procedures for seeking regular feedback from students and for involving them in decisions affecting their learning. See this policy at http://www.policy.monash.edu/policy-bank/management/governance/student-representation-consultation-policy.html Also refer to `Statute 2 - Governing bodies, committees, and University organisations' at www.monash.edu.au/pubs/calendar/statutes/Statute02.html.
  • The Work, Study and Family Responsibilities Policy commits the University to provide policies and services which enable staff and students to successfully combine their pursuit of employment and education with family responsibilities, eg regarding provision of advisory and childcare services, and mechanisms to prevent discrimination around employment, education and family responsibilities. See this policy at http://adm.monash.edu/workplace-policy/leave/parental/work-study-family.html

For more about your rights as a student at Monash, talk to a student rights officer (see section 6).
