Chapter 6B - Multifaculty degrees
Statute 6B.1 - Multi-faculty degrees
Part 1 - General
1. The following degrees are degrees of the university and may be undertaken
in one grade only -
- Bachelor of Communication (BComn)
- Bachelor of General Studies (BGenSt)
- Bachelor of Tourism (BTour)
2. In this statute and in any regulations made under this statute, unless
the contrary intention appears -
'academic coordinator' in relation to a degree means the academic coordinator
for the degree appointed under section 4;
'administering faculty' and 'contributing faculties' in relation to a degree
mean the faculty or faculties specified as such in relation to that degree;
'campus director' means the director of Berwick campus appointed under section
5;
'course of study' means the subjects comprising the course of study for the
degree determined by the faculty board of the administering faculty;
'degree' means one of the degrees specified in section 1. 3.1 There shall be
a board of management for each degree.
3.2 The board of management for a degree shall, subject to this statute and
the regulations -
3.2.1 control and be responsible for the structure of the course of study for
the degree;
3.2.2 through the administering faculty -
3.2.2.1 advise the Council and the Academic Board on all matters relating to
the structure of the course of study for the degree; and
3.2.2.2 report to the Council or to the Academic Board on any question concerning
the course of study for the degree referred to it by the particular body; and
3.2.3 deal with all matters concerning the course of study for the degree brought
before it by the vice-chancellor and president, the deputy vice-chancellor
and vice-president responsible for university-wide resource management or the
deputy vice-chancellor and vice-president responsible for the academic administration
of the university.
4.1 There shall be an academic coordinator of each degree appointed by the
vice-chancellor.
4.2 The academic coordinator of a degree shall be responsible, in consultation
with the contributing faculties, for the coordination of the course of study
for the degree.
5.1 There shall be a director of Berwick campus appointed by the vice-chancellor.
5.2 The director's functions and duties shall be allocated by the vice-chancellor,
to whom the director must report.
5.3 The director may attend any meeting of the Council, the Academic Board
or the Committee of Deans of the university.
6. For the purposes of the statutes and regulations, an enrolled candidate
for a degree is a student of and enrolled in the relevant administering faculty.
7. The Council may, on the recommendation of the relevant board of management
made with the approval of the board of the relevant administering faculty,
make regulations for or with respect to -
7.1.1 the requirements of a degree; and
7.1.2 any other matter or thing necessary or expedient to be prescribed for
the purposes of this statute.
7.2 Regulations made under this statute shall be promulgated by being exhibited
on a notice board provided for the purpose in the administration building at
each university campus and after being so promulgated must remain so exhibited
for at least fourteen days not counting any day on which the university is
on vacation.

Part 2 - Bachelor of Communication
8.1 In this part -
'board' means the Bachelor of Communication board of management;
'degree' means the degree of Bachelor of Communication.
8.2 In relation to
the degree -
8.2.1 the administering faculty is the Faculty of Arts; and
8.2.2 the contributing faculties are the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Information
Technology and the Faculty of Business and Economics.
9. The Bachelor of Communication board of management comprises -
9.1.1 the dean of the Faculty of Arts or the dean's nominee, who shall be chair
of the board;
9.1.2 the registrar of the Faculty of Arts;
9.1.3 one representative of the Faculty of Information Technology nominated
by the dean of the faculty;
9.1.4 one representative of the Faculty of Business and Economics nominated
by the dean of the faculty;
9.1.5 one representative of the Casey Institute of Technical and Further Education
nominated by the director of the institute;
9.1.6 the academic coordinator of the degree;
9.1.7 the campus director;
9.1.8 the head of the School of Communication, Tourism and Business;
9.1.9 two members of staff teaching the course of study nominated by the campus
director; and
9.1.10 one student enrolled in a course of study for the degree elected by
and from the Monash Union of Berwick Students.
10. The term of office -
10.1.1 of each nominated member of the board is two years; and
10.1.2 of the student member of the board is one year.
11. The quorum for meetings of the board is 5 members.

Part 3 - Bachelor of General Studies
12.1 In this part
'board' means the Bachelor of General Studies board of management;
'degree' means the degree of Bachelor of General Studies.
12.2 In relation
to the degree -
12.2.1 the administering faculty is the Faculty of Arts; and
12.2.2 the contributing faculties are the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Business
and Economics and the Faculty of Engineering.
13. The Bachelor of General Studies board of management comprises -
13.1.1 the dean of the Faculty of Arts or the dean's nominee, who shall be
chair of the board;
13.1.2 one representative of the Faculty of Arts nominated by the dean of the
faculty;
13.1.3 one representative of the Faculty of Business and Economics nominated
by the dean of the faculty;
13.1.4 one representative of the Faculty of Engineering nominated by the dean
of the faculty;
13.1.5 the academic coordinator of the degree.
14. The term of office of each member of the board is two years.
15. The quorum for meetings of the board is 3 members.

Part 4 - Bachelor of Tourism
16.1 In this part -
'board' means the Bachelor of Tourism board of management;
'degree' means the degree of Bachelor of Tourism.
16.2 In relation to the degree
-
16.2.1 the administering faculty is the Faculty of Business and Economics;
and
16.2.2 the contributing faculties are the Faculty of Business and Economics
and the Faculty of Arts.
17. The Bachelor of Tourism board of management comprises -
17.1.1 the dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics or the dean's nominee,
who shall be chair of the board;
17.1.2 the registrar of the Faculty of Business and Economics;
17.1.3 one representative of the Faculty of Arts nominated by the dean of the
faculty;
17.1.4 one representative of the Casey Institute of Technical and Further Education
nominated by the director of the institute;
17.1.5 the academic coordinator of the degree;
17.1.6 the campus director;
17.1.7 the head of the School of Communication, Tourism and Business;
17.1.8 two members of staff teaching the course of study nominated by the campus
director; and
17.1.9 one student enrolled in a course of study for the degree elected by
and from the Monash Union of Berwick Students.
18. The term of office -
18.1.1 of each nominated member of the board is two years; and
18.1.2 of the student member of the board is one year.
19. The quorum for meetings of the board is 5 members.
