in each subject and shall be the subject assessment for that subject.
2.3 The subject faculty board may, after consulting all faculty boards
of enrolment, determine that there shall be no terminal examination for a
designated subject or that the terminal examination for that subject shall
form part only of the subject assessment for that subject.
2.4 Where the subject faculty board makes a determination pursuant to subsection
2.3, the subject assessment for the subject concerned shall comprise such
tests, essays, assignments and the like as the dean of that faculty shall,
on the recommendation of the chairman of department, prescribe.
2.5 Any determination pursuant to subsection 2.3 and any prescription pursuant
to subsection 2.4 made more than four weeks after the beginning of teaching
in the designated subject shall be made by the subject faculty board after
consulting all faculty boards of enrolment and shall be reported to the Academic

published outline of subjects, they may treat as part of the terminal examination
the assessment of work done by candidates during the teaching period of their
performance in any formal tests held during that period or both.
2.12 A terminal examination and any supplementary or special examination
held in connection with that terminal examination shall be deemed to be
one examination. Special consideration
3.1 A candidate whose work during a teaching period or whose performance
in an examination or other assessment has been affected by illness or other
serious cause may apply in writing to the registrar for special consideration
by the examiners or board of examiners concerned.
3.2 An application for special consideration under subsection 3.1 shall
be accompanied by appropriate evidence and shall be made not later than
forty-eight hours after the last examination scheduled for the candidate on
the university's relevant published examination timetable for the semester
concerned has been held or where the subject is one in respect of which a
determination has been made under subsection 2.3 that there be no terminal
examination in the subject, within forty-eight hours after the last terminal
examination for a subject taught by the candidate's faculty of enrolment has
been held, provided that the registrar may accept a late application for special
consideration if satisfied that a candidate was unable to make such application
by the required date.
Supplementary and special examinations
4.1 Supplementary and special examinations
for a subject may be held and the rules for and the conditions governing entry

by the faculty board of enrolment, that board or the appropriate board of
examiners may allow a candidate to undertake a supplementary examination in
the subject concerned.
4.4 Where, pursuant to subsection 2.3, there is no terminal examination
in a subject, or the terminal examination forms part only of the subject assessment,
the chief examiner in that subject may, in addition to or in lieu of a supplementary
examination, prescribe such other supplementary work for assessment as thought
fit and, for the purpose of the remaining subsections of this section, a supplementary
examination shall be deemed to include such supplementary assessment.
4.5 The faculty board of enrolment or the appropriate board of examiners
may allow a candidate to sit for a special examination where:
