This unit is available to students enrolled in second or third year of their Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Global Studies single and double degrees who have successfully completed ATS2992 (Global Immersion Guarantee -India)





This unit will develop students' understanding of the role of social enterprises and the key concepts that underpin the development and implementation of a social enterprise. Students will take part in an in-country experience where they will experience and work on the practical application of these theories and concepts. Together with the partner organization students will be placed in existing projects and will directly contribute to the development of these. Leadership training and innovation design. Students will also undertake a range of academic tasks that will build and consolidate their theoretical knowledge and the application of this knowledge.


Upon completing this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Develop an understanding of the key concepts that underpin social enterprises;
  2. Exercise critical thinking in the contrast of theoretical knowledge and in-country experience;
  3. Apply theoretical knowledge when analysing local context and program/project characteristics;
  4. Exhibit cross cultural competencies and understand social enterprise in diverse contexts;
  5. Build self-awareness and a personal ethical framework in relation to social enterprises.

Workload requirements

This unit requires an equivalent of 288 contact hours including assessment tasks and in-country program activities. This is a guided study tour, however students will be required to attend a compulsory on-campus session prior to departure.
