The unit develops Indonesian language skills and cultural knowledge through the use of both traditional and contemporary story techniques. It considers both oral and written traditions utilizing, songs, poetry, folk tales and literature.
Upon successful completion of the unit students will be able to:
- understand and analyse the Indonesian language in formal and semi-formal registers commonly found in the media, government and personal correspondence.
- develop more complex vocabulary and syntax, in spoken and written language related to discussion and description;
- describe and discuss their background cultural knowledge in order to communicate in more complex cross cultural social meetings.
Within semester assessment: 50% + Exam: 50%
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
