Synopsis

Introduction to the major differences between domestic and IHRM; cultural, social and ethical issues for IHRM; IHRM planning, policies and procedures; international relations and evaluation of host country environments; recruitment and selection; remuneration; training and compensating expatriates; maintaining the employment relationship within international operations.

Outcomes

The learning goals associated with this unit are to:

  1. identify and analyse the differences between national (domestic) and international human resource management (IHRM)
  2. critically analyse the issues related to managing people in multinational enterprises
  3. assess the external factors that influence the management of people in multinational enterprises
  4. critically analyse the relationships between IHRM and individual and organizational elements
  5. integrate theoretical and empirical knowledge with practical examples of IHRM.

Within semester assessment: 60%
Examination: 40%
