Synopsis

This unit provides domestic Australian students with a guided opportunity to absorb some principles of Italian language, especially in relation to art and design, before they attend the Prato study centre. The unit acquaints students with the grammar of Italian but also develops skills in rapidly gaining Italian vocabulary, based on parallels with English.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students should:

  1. Be able to distinguish parts of speech in Italian
  2. Have a sense of Italian grammar and vocabulary, with an emphasis on terminology in art and design
  3. Develop practical strategies for converting English conceptions into Italian
  4. Have a readiness to engage in simple Italian conversation
  5. Appreciate strategies to augment their knowledge of Italian
  6. Be prepared to read Italian texts and engage in bilingual cultural experiences.
