Synopsis

This unit is designed to introduce the concept of risk as a business philosophy and to introduce the students to the Australian Risk Management Standard, AS/NZS 4360:1999.

Objectives

The learning goals associated with this unit are to:

  1. demonstrate an understanding of the scope, application and definition of risk
  2. explain the risk treatment requirements needed by business
  3. compare and contrast the risk management process with existing approaches to governance, compliance and control
  4. apply the risk approach to effective business control, by reference to AUS/NZ 4360:2004
  5. apply critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills in individual and/or group activities dealing with risk.

Assessment

Within semester assessment: 30%
Examination (3 hours): 70%
