Synopsis

Topics include the international financial system; the European monetary system; Euromarkets; trade finance and trade facilitation agencies; international bank management issues; global banking issues; country risk analysis.

Objectives

The learning goals associated with this unit are to:

  • illustrate characteristics of international banking and analyse the decision of domestic banks to expand internationally
  • explain the role of international financial markets and the instruments used in these markets
  • appraise foreign exchange and the application of relevant hedging techniques
  • analyse current international banking and finance issues
  • develop written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Assessment

Within semester assessment: 30 %
Examination (3 hours): 70 %
