Description

This major covers fundamentals of computing in the context of network and communications technologies with a focus on areas such as network applications, mobile computing, web development and the implementation and management of network technologies. The major includes study in computer communication, network concepts and protocols, web standards and technologies, network security, wireless and mobile computing, and distributed systems development, including web based systems. Specialist units are available in distributed and internet based systems development and network technologies and their management.

Units

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Information Technology Systems with a major in net-centric computing, students must complete the course requirements outlined below.

  • FIT3031 Information and network security
  • FIT3047 Industrial experience project (part 1)
  • FIT3048 Industrial experience project (part 2)
  • FIT3130 Computer network design and deployment

Further Information Technology units

Students take six points of level three Information Technology units offered by the Faculty of Information Technology.

Elective units

Students complete 36 points of electives, of which no more than 24 points may be taken at level one; the remaining units must be at level two or three. These electives may be taken from within the Faculty of Information Technology or from any other faculty of Monash University.
