This unit continues to focus upon the practice of teaching in primary schools. Specific teaching techniques, such as lesson planning, making observations, incorporating assessment and evaluating (reflecting upon) practice are refined in contexts of practice. The fieldwork component provides further opportunities for students to put these techniques into practice.
Upon successful completion of the unit, the students should have refined: an appreciation of themselves as learners and how classrooms can be places where teachers as well as children can learn; techniques in lesson planning, making observations, incorporating assessment and evaluating practice [techniques and skills]; skills in planning, managing and creating structured learning environments, including ICTs utilised for these purposes [planning and management].
