Synopsis
Composition in groups based on program music pieces from the past two hundred and fifty years. Detailed study of selected program music repertoire illustrating how composers have used music to portray events, people, places, emotions and colours through sound. In this way, students begin to see with their ears. Students also improve their listening and theoretical skills.
Objectives
The learning objectives of this unit are to gain confidence and ability in composing music; to become familiar with specific musical repertoire from the past three hundred years; to develop the ability to read a simple musical score; to understand how music can portray events, represent people, places; emotions and colours in music.
