Synopsis

Introduction to concepts of database and data management in organisations. Topics include the motivation for data management, relational and legacy (hierarchical and network) database systems, designing and implementing relational databases, relational algebra, use of the SQL language, client/server architecture, distributed databases.

Practical work: 40%
Examination (3 hours): 60%
