Course description

The BIS honours degree aims to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of an area of study relevant to information management and systems, to provide a preparation for further research, and to prepare students for advanced professional practice.
On the successful completion of the degree, students will have:

  • an in-depth knowledge of one or more areas of study relevant to information management and systems
  • an understanding of the use of a variety of research methods appropriate to information management and systems
  • planned and completed a substantial research project relevant to IMS information management and systems documented by thesis.
  • adequately prepared to undertake further research at masters or PhD level.

Entry requirements

Entry to the honours degree will require completion of the BIS pass degree (or equivalent degree from another university) with a grade average of at least credit in the third-year information management and systems units.

Course structure

Course requirements

The course consists of one unit, IMS4000 (Information management and systems honours), which encompasses both coursework (including a compulsory research methods component IMS4036) and a 24-point thesis. Each student's course of study in IMS4000 will require approval by the head of school.
