Portal login pics competition
If you would like to enter your photo in the my.monash login pic competition, please read this page carefully. We will only consider photos that meet the requirements outlined below.
The my.monash team invites all staff and students of Monash University to submit their photos for possible inclusion on the portal login page and the chance to win a Monash Bookshop voucher:
But you don't have to win, to be seen. Winning photos will be featured on the login page during the last week of October, but all approved entries will be published on the login page as they come in, and be viewed by over 50,000 Monash students and staff around the world!
The 2012 competition opens at the start of Semester Two and closes on the last day of mid-semester vacation, 28 September. Winners will be announced on the login page and by email on the last day of Semester Two, 19 October.
Monash on my mind ...
All images appearing in the my.monash portal are subject to approval by the University, with a preference for images that:
- have a Monash University context (eg a group of students at a particular campus, University buildings or landscapes, learning and teaching or club activities, etc)
- are natural, not digitally generated or significantly altered
- incorporate people wherever possible
- create a sense of confidence and optimism
- convey some sense of the University being culturally diverse and active, innovative, engaged, dynamic, accessible and full of integrity.
Here are some suggestions: club events, cultural activities, around campus, study interests, sporting events, friends having fun … Check out the login page by refreshing it a few times to get a feel for the sort of thing we're after.
Specifications (PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY)
Please submit your images using the following ratio and format:
- Ratio: 3:2, eg 3000 x 2000, 1200 x 800, 900 x 600, etc pixels (ie height must be 2/3 of width)
- Format: JPG
- If you want to, you can resize your images to create smaller attachments, but don't make them smaller that 333 x 222 pixels.
Correct ratio: 3 x 2 landscape mode

When you send us your entries, please include a brief description or caption of around 100 characters or less for each of your photos.
- Keep your caption short and to the point.
- Your caption should explain what the image is about (eg ‘Students rehearsing in the School of Music, Clayton campus’ or ‘Student attending a Monash Alumni career development event’ or ‘Monash Diving Club class in the Doug Ellis pool, Clayton campus’).
- Please include your name, campus and faculty.
Photographer's instructions and consent form
Consent of people in your picture
It is your responsibility to ensure that anyone featured in your photo provides their consent for us to publish their picture.
- Send each featured subject a copy of the image in which they appear and ...
- direct them to the subject's consent form, which includes the instructions they need to send us their consent.
When is someone a featured subject?
- When you can see the person's face clearly.
- When the person is in a small group (eg less than 10 people).
- When the person is clearly visible but is unaware that you have taken their picture.
- If there is ANY CHANCE the person would object to having their picture used without their permission.
- Eligibility: only currently employed staff and enrolled students of Monash University may enter.
- Dates: the competition will be open for submissions between 23-06-2012 and 28-09-2012. Winners will be announced on 19-10-2012 and will be contacted by email within the next business day.
- Each person can submit up to two images.
- Photos must be submitted using your Monash email account.
- The photographer and any featured subjects must sign release forms (see above for a definition of featured subject.
- Photographs will be judged along the following criteria: Monash University branding guidlines for photographs, expressing something of the spirit of Monash; aesthetics, such as composition, mood, visual impact; originality.
- Judging: picures will be judged by members of the my.monash team, who don't necessarily have any professional expertise and will be using their personal taste and their understanding of Monash branding guidelines. The spirit of the competition is that a few people will get vouchers, but that every accepted photo is a winner that will be viewed by over 50,000 staff and students at Monash, possibly for months to come!
- Prizes will be in the form of Monash Bookshop vouchers. First = $200, second = $100 and third = 3 x $50 vouchers. In addition, all winning photos will get greater exposure on the my.monash login page during the last week of October.
