RunGEM is a Windows interface which provides an environment specially tailored for carrying out simulations with a model. It is included in recent GEMPACK installations or may be freely downloaded here. It has two special strengths:
The Systematic Sensitivity Analysis Help file which comes with RunGEM guides you through a complete SSA example with the GTAP model. This example is based on a simulation you can carry out using the GTAP model files in RGEMGTAP.ZIP (see below). Instructions for carrying out this complete SSA example can be found in the link "complete example" on the Contents page of the Systematic Sensitivity Help file. [You can access this SSA Help file via RunGEM's menu item Tools..Help on Systematic Sensitivity Analysis.]
A Release 6.0 or later GEMPACK licence is required to carry out Systematic Sensitivity Analysis with RunGEM.
Information about systematic sensitivity analysis (and an earlier way of carrying it out) is given in GTAP Technical Paper number 3.
To download RunGEM and associated files, proceed as follows.
(i) Download and install the latest GEMPACK Windows programs. This will also install RunGEM.
(ii) Chapter 5 of GEMPACK document GPD-8 is a Hands-on introduction to RunGEM. You can download GPD-8.
(iii) Download either or both of the models Stylized Johansen and ORANIG98 (see the download options below) referred to in chapter 5 of GPD-8.
(iv) When you follow chapter 5 in GPD-8, you don't need to prepare the model files (see sections 5.1.1 and 5.2.1 of GPD-8); instead just unzip the files downloaded below.
(v) You can also download either or both the models Miniature ORANI and GTAP (see the download options below). Although GPD-8 does not describe how to use RunGEM with these models, you should be able to use RunGEM to carry out simualtions with them once you have worked through using RunGEM with either Stylized Johansen or ORANIG98.
(vi) If you have Release 6.0 (October 1998) of Source-Code GEMPACK for Windows PCs and
you want to carry out Systematic Sensitivity Analysis with respect to parameters, you
need to update your version of TABLO.
[This is not necessary if you have Release 6.0-001 (March 1999) or later of
Source-Code GEMPACK.]
Stylized Johansen model files for use with RunGEM
[save this as file RGEM-SJ.ZIP] (1140K)
To use RunGEM to carry out simulations with Stylized Johansen, unzip all files in
RGEM-SJ into a new directory (for example, C:\SJ). Then proceed as in section 5.1.2 of
GPD-8.
ORANIG98 model files for use with RunGEM [save this as file RGEM-OG.ZIP] (1430K)
To use RunGEM to carry out simulations with ORANIG, unzip all files in RGEM-OG into a new directory (for example, C:\ORANIG). Then proceed as in section 5.2.2 of GPD-8.
GTAP model files for use with RunGEM [save this as file RGEMGTAP.ZIP] (1480K)
To use RunGEM to carry out simulations with GTAP, unzip all files in RGEMGTAP into a new directory (for example, C:\GTAP). Then Change Model (on RunGEM's Model/Data page) to GTAP1010.EXE and select the appropriate data files for one of the aggregations supplied. [The smaller one is a 3x3 aggregation. The data files corresponding to files with logical names GTAPSETS, GTAPDATA, GTAPPARM are GSET2-01.HAR, GDAT2-01.HAR and GPAR2-01.DAT respectively.] A complete example of carrying out Systematic Sensitivity Analysis (SSA), as documented in the SSA Help file, is based on these files (see the notes earlier on this page about SSA).
Miniature ORANI model files for use with RunGEM
[save this as file RGEM-MO.ZIP] (1200K)
To use RunGEM to carry out simulations with Miniature ORANI, unzip all files in RGEM-MO
into a new directory (for example, C:\MO). Then Change Model (on RunGEM's Model/Data
page) to MO.EXE and select the data file MO.DAT.
