Cyril Tonkin Scholarship

This scholarship provides generous income for three years to an outstanding pharmacy graduate of the faculty who undertakes a higher degree by research in pharmacy or pharmaceutical sciences.

The scholarship honours the selfless service of Victorian College of Pharmacy graduate Dr Cyril Tonkin, who graduated as a gold medallist in 1910 before becoming a medical practitioner in 1921. He was a lecturer and examiner at the Victorian College of Pharmacy from 1920 to 1953.

$24,000 a year

The winner receives around $24,000 a year for three years, with a maximum six-month extension possible. The income is equivalent to an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) and increases slightly each year. An APA is worth $23,728 a year in 2012.

Travel overseas

The scholarship can also cover national or international travel costs, related to your research. Such costs could include accommodation and living expenses, medical and travel insurance, and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses. You're expected to travel economy class and declare other available funding sources.
