Studying Abroad
In June 2003, I went to the Cook Islands with 24 other students to complete a teaching round for three weeks. I found out about this experience from a poster and it was so easy to apply, I just attended the meetings!
I met with the coordinator who gave me an overview of what the experience would involve. I was definitely interested and so I registered and attended the next meeting, by which time I had been accepted.
I had the most wonderful experience with a great class who were eager to learn, and a very supportive teacher who not only taught me a number of things, but learnt from me as well. I also made a great network of friends in the other students who shared this experience.
The teaching rounds were a lot of work, but they were very worthwhile and we had time on the weekends and after school to explore the island. The benefits of studying abroad are numerous! Not only did I learn more about teaching, I also learnt about a whole new culture.
I would recommend this experience to anyone who is eligible, wants to learn about another country and wishes to have the best teaching round that you could imagine!
