I reckon the best thing you can do, as a student here, particularly in first year, is to get involved. I really like that there is so much to do here after you have had enough of study or assignments and need a break. These days some students just go home, or wherever they are living after lectures. I figure I will enjoy my year more if I hang about and study in the library or the student lounge… have a beer at the end of the day, whatever.
I joined MUGCLUB which is run by the Student Union (MUGSU). MUGCLUB gives me access to different clubs and societies at the Gippsland campus - everything from Board Riders to boxing, from badminton to the campus Environmental Collective… and more as well. Everyone's pretty passionate about their area of interest and it's a pretty cool way to meet new people and have fun with others who share your interests.
On top of that, there are opportunities for student leadership through the Ancora Imparo program. Ancora Imparo is basically about giving students the skills/ knowledge they need to contribute and make a difference in society. It's a great way to network with students from all Monash campuses and to hear from community leaders and experts in different fields. If you are in to making the world a better place, this could be your bag. I know this line sounds like a Michael Jackson song title but Ancora Imparo is a very cool concept. That's it from me.
