I'd advise all new students who want to make the most of your university years to become a Student Office Bearer. I was a student welfare officer for a year. This experience gave me an incredible and valuable insight into tertiary life beyond the classroom.
During this time I helped out with the Free Food Monday's scheme which provided nutritious meals to students on a tight budget. This was an eye-opening experience as I had never encountered such issues. It gave me a whole new perspective on the difficulties faced by many of our students and others in society.
I am glad that I chose to actively participate, assist and campaign to make a difference to the community. By choosing this path, I connected with others for an experience that was highly satisfying socially, academically and personally.
