My first attempt at writing a university level essay was difficult as it is completely different to writing at high school. Essay writing at university is more structured and you have to reference everything! You cannot just express an opinion - you have to have evidence and quotes to support your argument and reference them too!
I felt overwhelmed with all this referencing and on a number of occasions, I found myself up at two in the morning just trying to insert references into my assignments. I finally made an appointment to see a Language and Learning Services (LLS) officer. She taught me how to structure essays and the academically correct way to reference. Two years on and I have definitely improved and this is evident in the grades I have received.
