Hello, my name is Lien (but people call me Sherry). I'm a Malaysian student studying the Bachelor of Communication at Monash Berwick. I've been here for one and half years and I'm majoring in Public Relations.
Originally, I intended to study fashion design in New York. Circumstances did not allow it and Berwick was the only Monash campus offering PR, so here I am.
In a nutshell, coming here has been wonderful, not because I've had the greatest times of my life here, but because it has been a challenging experience.
When I first came, I was a little disorientated (culture shock). I was jealous of other international students who had parents with them (mum was probably at home drinking teh ais). Also, because I arrived in mid July, it was my first winter.
I managed to rent a room nearby, thanks to Mark Bartholomeusz from the Berwick International Student's Association (BISA), and settled down comfortably to uni life. BISA organised a few outings. I attended some of them and made many Asian and Scandinavian friends.
I advise other international students to enjoy Australia and uni life. It's not just the degree that counts. It's the experience and opportunities you are given while studying here.
