Forget Eastern Europe, Cambodia and the Maldives, Berwick is the new black in tourism destinations.
I grew up travelling with my parents, heading overseas each year. When I was six, we went to Disneyland. When I was seven we went to Tokyo and when I was eight, we moved to Hong Kong for six years where I studied at an International School. I think this gave me a love for travelling and desire to work in tourism. I went to lots of Open Days and researched all the tourism courses in the VTAC guide. I was to discover that the course I most wanted to do was in some place called Ber-wick - I didn't even know how to pronounce it right at the time.
Berwick has really surprised me. I love it. There is a great sense of community as you get to know everyone and it makes coming to uni a lot of fun. From a tourism perspective, it's not far from many Victorian attractions like Phillip Island, Mt Baw Baw and the Dandenong Ranges. After being here for a year, I feel like a Berwick local. The shops are great and there are many health and beauty stores, which I'm really into. I've joined the local tennis club, buy great party dresses at Gilda and the Fashion Emporium and go out to the Berwick Inn and the Eden with all my uni mates.
When you read books about Ivy League universities in America situated in pretty towns, the Berwick campus is actually kind of like this. Berwick Village also looks incredible in springtime and autumn with 100-year-old oak trees and boutique and specialty stores lining the main street.
