Open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 6pm, the centre has consistently achieved the highest standards of excellence endorsed by the National Childcare Accreditation Council. The centre offers programs for all children under six as well as a government-funded kindergarten program for four year-olds. Telephone (03) 9904 4124. Clubs and SocietiesJoining a club is a great way to meet people and expand your university experience. There are many clubs and societies to choose from on campus. Disability Liaison UnitA range of support services is available to students under the Monash University Disability Support Program. Support provided may include note-taking, AUSLAN interpreting, arranging alternative formats, use of adaptive technology rooms and negotiating Alternative Arrangements for Assessments (AAAs). These supports are organised through the Disability Liaison Unit (DLU). Students wishing to access these services must register with the DLU and provide appropriate current medical documentation to determine eligibility. A Disability Liaison Officer is available on Thursday mornings at the Peninsula campus. Fitness CentreThe Monash Sport Fitness Centre is a state of the art facility offering a very personal atmosphere. Our fitness professionals can put together a training regime that will cater to your specific fitness needs. We also offer a variety of group fitness classes,catering for all levels of fitness. We have a range of membership types and payment options available. Best of all, great student rates are offered. The Centre is located on the ground floor of building U. The cafe offers a range of tasty snacks for any time of the day, or alternatively check out the Seahorse Tavern, the on-campus licensed bistro. The tavern also hosts a variety of evening events staged by MONSU Peninsula, clubs and other student groups. These include comedy nights, band nights and the wild Peninsula ball. Watch out around campus for posters advertising these events. Both the cafe and the tavern are located on the upper level of Building U. Health ServiceGeneral practitioners and a nurse are available for general medical needs as well as immunisations including travel vaccinations. The practice is located within the Health, Wellbeing and Development Hub, ground floor building A, and will bulk bill all local students, and international students with current private health insurance. Health, Wellbeing and DevelopmentThe Health Wellbeing and Development ‘Hub’ at Peninsula includes the Health Service and provides professional counselling and advice on personal and study-related matters, student loans and grants, chaplaincy, family and child care advice, and international student support. Health, Wellbeing and Development aims to provide support and advice to students and staff on emotional, psychological, health, financial, accommodation, religious/spiritual, child care and physical concerns to enhance their academic performance and community life on campus. International Student Support is part of the ‘HWD’ Hub and provides expert advice and assistance to meet the special needs of international students regarding: settling in and commencing studies; relevant government regulations and making cultural adjustments to enhance the living and studying experience in Australia. Contact (03) 9904 4223 or visit the ‘HWD Hub’. ITS Service DeskThe ITS Service Desk is located on the second floor of Building A and is open during semester Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. The ITS Service Desk can assist with things such as password or computer account enquiries, dealing with viruses and spyware, connecting to the wireless network and using lab facilities. Computer labs are available throughout the campus and the university (you can use general access labs at other Monash campuses), but first you need an Authcate password. Ask a host or your mentor to help you set one up or attend the ITS session or ‘Open Lab’ during Orientation. For a quick surf of the web or to check emails, there is also an internet cafe located in the Upperdeck Cafe. All you need for access is your Authcate password. Learning SkillsIf you have specific questions about your academic work in terms of writing style; referencing; approaches to assignments; or time management etc., we encourage you to come without an appointment to a library drop-in session for a brief 10 to 15 minute consultation with the learning skills adviser. The times for these drop-in session times are advertised on the library web site. Bring your work with you. New and international students may find these sessions particularly useful. Classes will also be run during the semester on topics including referencing; assignment planning and writing; efficient reading, listening and note-taking strategies; exam preparation; and time organisation. These classes and workshops are scheduled throughout the semester and you should register on line to attend. You can visit the library in building L during Orientation on a host tour, or just drop in for a quick look around at any time. We have made a vodcast available on the library webpage with quick tips about using the library, and our staff are always happy to give you a hand with any queries. Also, you can use the website to book into our classes, to help you get started with your assignments, to use the catalogue and the electronic resources for your research and to find out about borrowing at www.lib.monash.edu.au Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA)The Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA) represents and serves the interests and welfare of postgraduates enrolled on all Victorian campuses by providing activities and services to cater to their specific needs. Monash Student Union (MONSU)Students are the lifeblood of the campus, and the student representatives at MONSU (the student union at Peninsula) are fantastic at making sure all students get the most out of their time here. MONSU reps run a range of events and activities throughout the year. They are also there to act as advocates for student rights. Any student can be involved in the student union. MONSU Peninsula Service DeskThe Service Desk provides a range of reasonably priced or free services for students, including photocopying, binding, laminating, faxing, phone cards, Met cards, locker hire, postage services, newspapers, photo ID and much more. The Service Desk is also a central contact point for MONSU Peninsula student representatives, including OSS, and for student clubs on campus. The Service Desk is located on the ground floor of Building U. Monash University Careers and EmploymentSo you've made it to uni, but now you're not sure where your course is taking you? Monash University Careers and Employment is the place to go all year round for information on career planning and assistance with decision-making, job-seeking, interview skills and resume preparation. The job library is also a great source of reference information. Monash University Careers and Employment is located on the ground floor of Building A in the Health, Wellbeing and Development Hub. Overseas Student ServicesThe Overseas Student Service (OSS) is an elected student body that exists to serve and represent the international students at Peninsula. The OSS also produces a magazine by international students, for international students, called OSSEcho. Look out for it during Orientation. Postgraduate StudentsThe Struan Postgraduate Centre is located in Building S, adjacent to the Library and Campus Administration buildings at the Peninsula Campus. All postgraduate students and Honours students from any Monash campus can register to use the general facilities of the centre including computing resources. The centre provides postgraduate and honours students with a wide range of facilities and services which are listed below:
Quiet RoomA quiet room has been set aside for prayer, reflection and meditation on the ground floor of Building A (Room A1.19). The room will be open during business hours and no booking is required. Sport – Monash SportMonash sport provides a large range of fun sporting options to keep you active and fulfil your competitive drive. At the Monash Fitness Centre you are able to hire sporting equipment as well as make bookings for the basketball hall, hockey pitch, tennis courts, table tennis, badminton and volleyball. Monash Sport run lunchtime and evening social sporting competitions during semester. Sports on offer include mixed netball, men’s and women’s 6 a side soccer, 3 on 3 basketball, 6’s cricket and touch football. So grab a few friends together and enter a team or register as an individual, it is a great way of meeting new people.
