Parkville Student President's Welcome
First of all, on behalf of the Monash Parkville Student Association (MPSA) it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Monash Parkville. MPSA is the official undergraduate student association on campus established to ensure the needs of a growing and diversifying student population. MPSA is responsible for representing the students; we are the student's voice. We aim to supplement the academic aspects of uni, extending your uni experience beyond that of just study. MPSA provides a variety of student facilities, including the common room and CUBE room as well as a balance of social, cultural and welfare activities. Entering uni is a huge transition in anyone's life and it's normal to feel a bit apprehensive. Orientation week is a great opportunity to ease yourself into it, to find where your classes are, meet a few new people and have a good time before classes begin, so make sure you get involved! MPSA aims to encourage students to participate and become actively involved in university life and to make your time at uni as fun and rewarding as possible. It is no doubt that uni will begin a new phase in your life. It's an opportunity to meet heaps of new people and make friends that you will keep beyond your years at uni. You will be exposed to many new things, experience diversity and enjoy the luxuries of freedom. Uni is a chance to take responsibility for yourself, and although that may sound daunting at first, it provides you with the chance to work towards your own goals and to achieve your potential. The role of MPSA is to complement the academic demands of university and provide a relaxed, fun and supportive environment to enhance the Parkville uni experience. In 2009, MPSA have planned a long list of events. These include the always highly anticipated MPSA Ball, the O.C (orientation camp), paintball, cocktail nights and various fun competitions (who likes cheeseburgers?) to name a few. In addition, we would love for you to become part of the MPSA committee. In the first few weeks of semester you will have the opportunity to nominate yourself or your friends to become a student representative and join MPSA. This is a great opportunity to get involved and I urge you all to consider it. Becoming part of MPSA provides a chance to become actively involved in student life and ensure student academic and social needs are looked after. As part of MPSA, you can also develop business skills, social skills, gain respect and most importantly have a lot of fun as part of exclusive committee. Again, congratulations and welcome to Monash Parkville. I hope you all have a fantastic first year of uni! Cheers, |
