You'll find them at 688 Elizabeth St, Melbourne, 3000. Phone 9341 7000 (freecall 1800 333 672). Also watch for the MPSA Second-hand Book Sale and on the notice boards for students trying to sell their old textbooks. Some Pharmacy books are also available at the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia office (level 1, Sissons Building). CafeteriasThe Parkville campus cafeteria is open to students and staff from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm during teaching periods, providing breakfast, lunch and light snacks. Students can also grab a bite to eat in nearby Red Cafe (corner of Walker Street and Royal Parade) or Vibe (441 Royal Parade). Lygon Street, Carlton and Sydney Road, Brunswick are also not too far away. Primary Cafe has also recently opened on the ground floor of the Faculty's new building (404). Clubs and SocietiesThere are a variety of clubs to choose from, including professional, sporting, social and religious groups. By becoming a member of a club, not only are you able to enjoy participating in activities, but you will also meet people and broaden your horizons. The Monash Parkville Students Association (MPSA) is the undergraduate student union at the campus that provides recreational facilities and many social and sporting events. There are also societies representing students undertaking courses at the campus, including the Pharmaceutical Science Society (PSS) and the Victorian Pharmacy Students' Association (VPSA), which provides pharmacy students with membership to the National Australian Pharmacy Students' Association (NAPSA). There is also a Postgraduate Students' Association (VCPPA) representing all postgraduate students studying at the campus. CounsellingThe Counselling Service offers free professional counselling to help you get the most out of university life. Issues that often come up for students include relationships, personal and study problems, adjustment to university, cultural identity and psychological concerns such as depression, stress, anxiety and self-esteem. Disability Liaison UnitThe Disability Liaison Unit (DLU) provides a range of services to assist students who have a disability or a long-term medical condition to participate as independently as possible in academic activities. Some of the services a DLU registered student may be able to access include note-taking, AUSLAN interpreting, provision of material in alternative formats, access/use of the Adaptive Technology Room and alternative arrangements for assessment. To access these services, students must be: actively enrolled in an award course at Monash University, have a disability defined in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and provide appropriate, current documentation from a relevant, qualified professional in the particular field of the disability/health profession. Employment and Career DevelopmentEmployment and Career Development offer students career guidance to develop career management skills and provide resources to link them to employment and work related learning opportunities. This is done through career events, education activities and by individual consultations. A careers advisor visits the Parkville campus fortnightly (1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month). She is located on the ground floor of the Sissons building and can be contacted via email at careers@pharm.monash.edu.au. Appointments can be made at the Student Service Centre. To make a submission email thegeneric@mpsa.org.au Health Wellbeing and DevelopmentHealth, Wellbeing and Development offers counselling, financial advice, international student support and other advisory services. It is located on the ground floor of the Sissons building. Most services are free, and all are confidential. International Student Friendship Program (ISFP)This program introduces international students to local volunteers and their families for the purpose of developing cross-cultural friendships. The ISFP provides social and practical support for international students by establishing friendships and cultural exchange. International students get the opportunity to make contact with local families, experience Australian culture firsthand, practise and improve their English and may even see parts of Melbourne and Victoria that they wouldn't know about. International Student SupportHealth Wellbeing and Development assist international students by offering specialist orientation information for international students and organising temporary accommodation and airport reception upon arrival. Also provided is information and advice regarding visa issues, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and settling in to study at Monash. ITS helpdeskThe Information Technology Service (ITS) can help with email and internet questions. ITS staff are located in the Library or can be contacted on 9903 1300. If your having trouble in the computer labs in the lecture theatre block contact the IT help desk on 03 9903 9777. The help desk operates Mondays to Fridays from 9.00am until 4.00pm. Learning skillsTo improve your academic English and approach to study go to a library drop-in session for a brief 10 to 15 minute consultation with a learning skills adviser about your assignment or academic skills. These library services are particularly suited to new and international students. You can also benefit from learning about oral communication and presentation, reading, study and exam preparation, effective listening and note-taking in lectures and seminars, analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking, and academic essay, report and thesis writing. LibraryLocated on the ground floor of the Manning Building, the CL Butchers Pharmacy Llibrary is open Mondays to Fridays from 8:00am to 5:45pm during teaching periods. During non-teaching periods, hours are 9.00am to 5.00pm. Fourteen-day, seven-day and overnight student loans are available, as is a borrowing service from other Monash University campus libraries. CAVAL facilities are available for borrowing from other university libraries. Photocopying facilities are situated in the library. Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA)The Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA) represents and serves the interests and welfare of postgraduates enrolled on all Victorian campuses by providing activities and services to cater to their specific needs. The MPA provides a range of services including advice and advocacy, seminars and workshops, social events and representation. Enrolled postgraduates are automatically entitled to use the resources and services of the MPA. For more information please visit the MPA website. Monash Residential ServicesMonash Residential Services aims to inform and educate students and staff about their housing options and tenancy rights and responsibilities, by providing an Off Campus Housing Information Service. This service provides information and resources specifically related to off campus housing as well as legal tenancy advice and guidance for individual matters. Monash SportMonash Sport offers a range of sporting activities for students to participate in. These include Community Fitness Events, varying from walking, running, cycling, swimming and are held globally. In addition Monash Sport can get students involved in inter-university sport which is a great way to represent the university in a variety of different sports. Monash University is one of Australia's most highly regarded elite athlete friendly Universities. Monash Sport offers a structured program that encourages and supports athletes, enabling them to undertake higher education while continuing to train and participate in sport at an elite level. The program operates at all of Monash's Australian campuses and offers support in many areas, including course advise, faculty support, access to sporting facilities and in some cases financial support. Further to the above sporting areas Monash Sport also manages the Universities Alpine Lodge in Mount Buller, which is available to students, staff and the general community all year round. In addition, Monash Sport coordinate Trips and Tours so that students can see the amazing attractions of Australia. There is something for everyone: Pharmacy specific sport information. Student common roomVisit the student common room to chat, cook or simply chill out. Situated on the ground floor of the Scott building, the common room has a pool table, a television, student notice boards, a microwave and photocopying facilities. CUBE is a student space which has opened at the bottom of the stairs in the lecture theatre block - make sure you stick your head in and check it out. There is also a postgraduate common room provided by VCPPA. Student OmbudsmanThe Student Ombudsman will review student complaints that have not been able to be resolved through the faculty or department processes. The Student Ombudsman is independent and impartial and is not an advocate for the University or the student. All matters brought to the Student Ombudsman are treated in confidence. Student representationThe Monash Parkville Students Association (MPSA), the student union at Parkville, consists of student representatives who are elected by the faculty's students each year. The association is primarily concerned with the provision of student services, organising student events and supporting the various student clubs. Located in G 25, Scott building, the MPSA also assists with student grievances, exclusions, disciplinary hearings or other academic course difficulties. For more information visit the MPSA website. The Victorian College of Pharmacy Postgraduate Association (VCPPA) represent all postgraduate students at the Victorian College of Pharmacy. VCPPA provide social activities and to give you a voice on issues affecting postgraduate students. VCPPA also maintain the postgraduate common room which has a coffee machine, pay TV and a DVD player, computer access and subscriptions to relevant newspapers and journals. TransportThe Parkville campus is located five kilometres from the Melbourne CBD. Students and visitors can park in Walker Street and the Avenue. Council parking regulations are strictly enforced. If you are travelling by public transport to the campus, catch the North Coburg tram (no. 19) from Flinders Street, which stops at 16 Royal Parade, or take the Upfield train line and get off at Royal Park station. Victorian College of Pharmacy Postgraduate Association (VCPPA)The Victorian College of Pharmacy Postgraduate Association (VCPPA) is your postgraduate representative body at the Parkville campus.
