Activities

The Activities office of the Monash Student Association (MSA) organises on-campus student activities and inter-campus competitions and events; live bands and DJs; movie nights, Union nights, Green Week, band comps and more. Volunteers are always welcome, so if you're interested in helping out, contact the Activities co-chairs Chris or Hayley, on (03) 9905-1510, drop into the office on the first floor of the Campus Centre (next to the bar) or check out the Activities website.

Advocacy for Postgraduates

The Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA) provides professional and confidential advice and advocacy to postgraduates on a range of issues including: administration, supervision, intellectual property, course quality, intermissions and extensions, assessment, resources, plagiarism, scholarships, thesis examination processes, faculty grievance processes. Campus Market

The Campus Centre Market is held each week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 7.30am until late afternoon. Situated between the Campus Centre, building 10 and the Engineering Lawns there are many and varied stalls including second-hand and new clothing, jewellery, second-hand and new books, scarves, gloves, socks, candles, picture frames, sporting accessories, plants, fresh fruit and vegetables and fresh flowers.

Clubs & Societies

There are over 100 (non-sporting) clubs and societies at the Clayton campus. The clubs range from academic-based clubs to those that are cultural, political, spiritual, or relating to a hobby or specific interest. There's bound to be a club that suits your interests, and it's a great way to meet people and get involved in campus life. Chaplaincy

Chaplains assist in the development of community and in the spiritual well-being of students. Chaplaincy services are part of Health Wellbeing and Development and include regular opportunities for worship and meditation; confidential pastoral counselling for spiritual, religious and personal issues; research, lectures and workshops on spiritual matters; and weekly study groups on scripture, faith, reflection and personal growth. Counselling

The Health Wellbeing and Deveopment Counselling Service provides confidential psychological counselling for academic, personal and relationship issues. Group programs are offered in the areas of stress management, motivation, self-esteem, time management, strategies for dealing with depression, anxiety, and exam stress. Counselling staff are qualified psychologists and social workers with advanced counselling training. Culture Card

As a student at Monash, you should be able to access a range of free, discounted and premium services, right? By purchasing a MSA Culture Card, you will be entitled to receive substantial discounts on an extensive range of services across Monash Student Association. The MSA provides political and educational representation to the University and government, getting the Culture Card you are supporting this!

On Campus you will be able to access discounts to Short Courses, MUST, John Medley Library, Wholefoods, Sir John's Bar, Clubs and Society and Activity events and so much more. When you are not on campus, you will be able to use your Culture Card to access discounts at selected outlets on campus.

Document Services

Services offered include printing, photocopying, binding, professional typing of resumes and essays, transcribing of audio, and formatting of theses. Available at Monash University Shop, Campus Centre, Building 10, open 8.30 - 5.30 Monday to Thursday, 8.30 - 5.00 Friday. Telephone 9905 5585 or Fax 9905 8113.

These services are also available at the John Medley Library, located on Level 1 of the Campus Centre, 10am - 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Employment and Career Development

Employment and Career Development is a comprehensive service available to all Monash students. From first year, you can access career advice, job preparation initiatives, employment opportunities and student development programs to help you prepare for and gain experience toward your graduate job of choice. Family and Child Care Service

The Health Wellbeing and Development Family and Child Care Service assists students in all family matters by providing advice and assistance with child care, parenting, work, study and family resources. For further information concerning waiting lists and applications to university-sponsored child care services, visit the Family and Childcare web page. A school holiday program also operates during all school holidays, including the month of January. Global Friendship Night

Tuesdays, 6.00-8.00pm. Cellar Room (Ground floor, Campus Centre, Building 10). A weekly social and cultural event for all students at Clayton campus (local & international) to meet, form friendships and celebrate their cultural diversity. Activities include multicultural food, dancing, games, workshops and movies, etc. Senior students and support staff will be available to provide helpful information to students who have genuine concerns about their university life. This event is hosted by Health Wellbeing and Development. Health Service

The Health Service can advise and assist you with emergency care, general and sexual health, travel, sports medicine and diving medicals. Male and female doctors are available Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm. Services are bulk-billed through Medicare for Australian resident students and OHSC for international students. Appointments are preferred. The service is located on the ground floor of the Campus Centre. Telephone (03) 9905-3175.

Health Wellbeing and Development

Health Wellbeing and Development offers all students a comprehensive full range of on-campus services. The friendly student advisers are there to assist you with almost any query regarding your time at Monash University, Clayton Campus. Specialist advice is offered on the following, counselling, international student advice, financial assistance, volunteering, child care, health and spiritual guidance. Host Scheme Program

Host Scheme is an Orientation program for new students of Monash University Clayton Campus. Our main aim - besides having fun - is to ameliorate the transition to university. The program began in 1974 and has grown every year, and is currently the largest university Orientation program in the southern hemisphere. The program takes the edge off starting uni and not knowing where to go or how to fit in. Run by students who have been there, done that, Host Scheme runs camps, tours, a festival day and a huge party attended by 2,000+ students.

If you're a new student, take part by coming to one of the camps held in February; also don't forget to pick up your MSA member bag, its jam packed with goodies and important information regarding uni life. For further information telephone (03) 9905 4136 or visit the Host Scheme website.

International Student Support

The Student Advisory service located within Health, Wellbeing & Development specialise in advice and support offered to International Students. Health, Wellbeing & Development design a variety of programs to meet the needs of International Students such as, Orientation, Peer Mentor and Language Exchange, and can also offer specialist advice on ESOS related matters, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), case managing students in difficult situations and referring students to access the university's wide range of services. Health, Wellbeing and Development send out a monthly student newsletter and students are welcome to visit a student adviser anytime, with no appointment necessary. The Health, Wellbeing & Development Advisers are located on the 1st Floor of the Campus Centre (Western Extension). John Medley Library

The John Medley Library is the only recreational library on the clayton campus, where you can read a magazine, borrow some light reading, listen to music or watch a DVD. The Library also offers the cheapest photocopying on campus.

Located on Level 1, Building 10, Campus Centre; operating hours 10am- 4pm Monday to Friday.

Learning skills

To improve your academic English and approach to study, go to a library drop-in session for a brief 10 to 15 minute consultation with a learning skills adviser about your assignment or academic skills. You can also benefit from learning about oral communication and presentation, reading, study and exam preparation, effective listening and note-taking in lectures and seminars, analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking, and academic essay, report and thesis writing. Classes and workshops are scheduled throughout the semester. Information about learning skills services can be found on the Learning Skills web page.

Library

Visit the library (there are 3 branches on Clayton campus) and go on a tour. Also explore the virtual library; the website is your access point to the catalogue and more than 3 million items. There is an excellent range of print and electronic resources, chosen by lecturers and specialist subject librarians to support campus courses. Log on to the Monash University Library website to check opening hours and to access the multitude of resources and services, including online journals, tours, training and online help any time wherever you are. Lot's Wife

Lot's Wife is the Clayton student newspaper. Full of news, views and reviews, it keeps you informed about what's happening and addresses major issues both on and off-campus. Volunteers and contributions are always welcome. Mature-Age and Part-time Students (MAPS)

The MAPS office and lounge are located on the first floor of the Campus Centre (building 10). Drop in and meet other students, relax and have a tea or coffee in the lounge. MAPS is the first place you should go for assistance with mature-age, off-campus or part-time study issues. It also organises social functions and other activities. Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA)

The Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA) represents and serves the interests and welfare of postgraduates enrolled on all Victorian campuses by providing activities and services to cater to their specific needs. The MPA offices are located in room 1-51, first floor, Campus Centre, Clayton campus and room HB33, basement, building H, Caulfield campus. Monash Residential Services (MRS)

For all enquiries about living on campus at Clayton Residential (Halls, Normanby House and South East Flats) in 2009, please contact Monash Residential Services, Clayton Residential on (03) 9905 6200, log on to the MRS website or visit the Operations Office, Building 47, Clayton.

Monash Residential Services (Off Campus Housing Advisory Service)

The Off-Campus Housing Advisory Service, offered by Monash Residential Services, assists students and staff by providing off-campus housing information and advice. The website lists real estate agents in the vicinity of each Monash University campus. It also provides useful links to Consumer Affairs Victoria, Tenancy Union Victoria, Monash University Homestay and Wesley Homeshare.

Representatives from Monash Residential Services are based across Victorian campuses at various scheduled times, and are available to provide specialised information on your renting rights. Monash Short Courses Centre

Monash Short Courses Centre offers an exciting range of short courses, giving you the opportunity to indulge in a creative interest, learn a new skill, or relax and forget the pressures of work and study. We are also a registered training organisation and provide specialised training ie Cert 1V. The courses are subsidised for Monash students, which makes them very affordable. The centre will be open throughout Orientation and will host a variety of free demonstrations and activities. It is located in building 51, near the post office. Monash Sport

Monash Sport offers over 50 competitive, recreational and instructional sporting clubs for you to get involved in at the Clayton Campus.

On campus there is a fitness centre comprising of a separate weight training area and cardio zone, group fitness classes, swimming pools, spa, sauna and steam room, indoor court sports including basketball, squash, tennis and badminton, outdoor football and cricket ovals, soccer, rugby and hockey pitches, tennis courts and much more! Causal use and memberships are available at Monash Sport.

You can also get involved in lunchtime sport, evening social sport, Australian University Games, clubs and community fitness events. There is definitely something for everyone of all skill levels.

Monash Student Association (MSA)

The Monash Student Association is made up of elected student representatives who represent all Clayton campus students. The MSA represents students on general issues such as education, fees and student welfare, and also specific issues such as women's affairs and queer students. It runs campaigns and rallies to ensure that the student voice is heard loud and clear throughout the university and wider community. MSA also operates,Sir John Bar, SWiCh child care, The Bikery, and has over 100 clubs, a vibrant Activities department, Lot's Wife (student newspaper), Host Scheme (transition program), the Short Courses Centre, MUST (Monash University Student Theatre), MUISS Monash University International Student Services), MAPS (Mature Age & Part Time students)and Wholefoods Vegetarian restaurant. Monash University International Student Friendship Program (ISFP)

This program introduces international students to local volunteers and their families for the purpose of developing cross-cultural friendships. The ISFP provides social and practical support for international students by establishing friendships and cultural exchange. International students get the opportunity to make contact with local families, experience Australian culture firsthand, practise and improve their English and may even see parts of Melbourne and Victoria that they wouldn't know about. Monash University International Student Service (MUISS)

MUISS provides support, events and services to international students studying at Monash. The MUISS Committee produces the Network newsletter, coordinates Multicultural Week, a ball, barbecues and other fun activities. If you're new to the country and you're feeling a little lost, or if you'd like to get involved with the committee, come up to the MUISS lounge on the first floor of the Campus Centre and meet other international students. Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA)

Visit the Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA) for a unique on-campus cultural experience! The Museum presents an innovative and exciting program of changing exhibitions of contemporary Australian and international art. Through our exhibitions, collections and public programs, MUMA makes an energetic contribution to, and interaction with, the intellectual and cultural life of the University and broader communities.

Orientation Carnival

Orientation at Monash gets larger and more exciting every year. O-Week is the flagship event of the Monash University calendar. Directly following the Host Scheme program, it is designed to facilitate the transition of commencing students into all aspects of higher education and welcome back continuing students in an entertaining and exciting environment. The Monash lawns are transformed into a sea of tents consisting of hundreds of clubs, market stalls, student services, bands, street performers and other great quality entertainment for all students to enjoy. Queer Lounge

Whether you're non-heterosexual or not quite sure, the Queer Lounge is a great place to meet friendly people in a supportive environment. Catch up with members of the Queer Collective in the lounge, located in the MSA area, first floor, Campus Centre, or drop into the MSA tent during Orientation. Radio Monash

Radio Monash is your radio station. It streams live 24 hours a day. It is not only the best place to hear cutting-edge music and student commentary; it also offers you the chance to have your own show. Become a member and we will train you to operate the broadcast studio and become a DJ. We also have a full digital recording studio and rehearsal room for bands and musos. Student Financial Aid

A financial adviser is available on campus to assist with financial matters ranging from student loans to Youth Allowance/Austudy. If you're having trouble coping financially, make an appointment with one of the Hub Student Advisers before things get out of hand. Student Ombudsman

The Student Ombudsman will review student complaints that have not been able to be resolved through the faculty or department processes. The Student Ombudsman is independent and impartial and is not an advocate for the University or the student. All matters brought to the Student Ombudsman are treated in confidence. Student Rights Service

If you're having problems settling in, you're failing units or you just need a chat and a bit of support, these are the people you should come and see. They can also help with financial advice. Student Theatre

Become involved in acting, directing or backstage work, or just come along and watch one of the productions. Either way, you're sure to enjoy it. All levels of experience are welcome. SWiCh Child Care

MSA SWiCh Child Care Centre is situated in building 51 (behind Short Courses). It is a 20-place Centre providing high-quality, flexible child care options for students' children. Please visit the SWiCH website or phone the Centre to organise a visit (03) 9905-3125.

Women's Room

The Women's Room is a place for women to relax, chat, study or meet in a women-only environment. It has lots of comfy couches, a sleeping room and a kitchenette. The Women's Room is located on the first floor of the Campus Centre (ask for directions at MSA reception).
