International advantage video - text versionExcellence in research and education, and great diversity in location, culture and people, set Monash apart as a leading Australian and proudly international university. Monash has earned its place among Australia's prestigious Group of Eight universities. Natalie Miller, Arts Student said: "I've always found Monash to be a really vibrant place. There's so much energy everywhere, everyone's always moving here and there, it's such a multicultural community and you've got so much going on -- social life and academic -- it's pretty much everything." Professor Richard Larkins, Vice-Chancellor and President, Monash University said: "It's characterised by excellence in research and in teaching but also it's been highly innovative and has also had a strong international focus since the time it was founded." Monash is home to over 50,000 students studying for undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications that are recognised around the world. Monash has eight lively campuses, six in Australia at Clayton, Caulfield, and Berwick, Peninsula, Gippsland, and the prestigious Victorian College of Pharmacy at Parkville. There's also a Monash South Africa campus and a new campus at Monash University Malaysia. Monash is Australia's most internationalised university. It has been a destination for international students from the very beginning. Professor Richard Larkins, Vice-Chancellor and President, Monash University said: "As we look forward in the 21st century, so much of what happens will be in an international context -- trade, international systems of government, international systems of criminal justice -- and we're going to be totally dependant on people having a good understanding across national boundaries, and the students who learn and study in that environment will be best equipped to face and to perform well in that type of world." The Monash campus in Kuala Lumpur is truly part of Malaysian education. Chu Kheng Sin, business student said: "I chose Monash Malaysia because I wanted to get an international education right here in Malaysia where it's near my home. It's more research-based. A lecturer comes in and actually teaches you on how to think rather than gives you data on what to do." The new campus in South Africa, near Johannesburg, has seen its very first graduates earn their degrees. There is a Monash centre in Prato in Italy. Prato, near Florence, is where Monash law and art and design students enjoy a truly international education. Student said: "It's such a unique experience and it's possibly going to be one of the best experiences of our lives." Monash also has Monash College, an English language centre, and a foundation year to attract students from around the world who want a Monash education. Lindsey Matthews, Arts/Science student said: "I think you can encapsulate Monash University with words like modern, innovative, exciting -- it's a really dynamic place to be both as a student and I'm looking forward to it as a postgraduate." |
