Marcus Pelham

Bachelor of Business and Commerce

Personal Assistant

Cruising around the world on luxury yachts and private aircraft is all in a day’s work for Monash distance education student Marcus Pelham. As private personal assistant to one of Australia’s leading businessmen, Marcus spends about seven months a year visiting Los Angeles, New York, Thailand, Singapore, China, London and Paris, as well as exotic private locations in the Caribbean.

Make the most of your opportunities

Marcus was in the middle of his first year undergraduate studies at a university in Queensland when he was offered his current job two years ago. Recognising a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, he jumped at the chance. He wanted to continue his education, so he enrolled in a Bachelor of Business and Commerce degree – which he is undertaking through Monash University off-campus study.

“I am working for the movers and shakers of business and getting lots of practical experience, but I wanted to continue my degree for the theory as well. It is good to know the foundations of business and to know how things have evolved,” said Marcus.

Study anywhere in the world

Off-Campus Learning offers Marcus the flexibility and support to study anywhere in the world, without being confined to a campus.

“On average I spend six to seven months of the year abroad. Off-campus study is flexible, so I retain the option of continuing my education. I can have the work sent to me, but I can still go to the library when I am based in a country,” he said.

Monash has been supportive and helpful. Recently I organised for my exam papers to be sent to an authorised special local invigilator, so that someone else was authorised to supervise my exams while I was abroad.”
