A group of US global business study program students from Clarkson Business School in the United States has been wowed by the University’s Simulated Teaching and Research Laboratory (STARLab).
Visiting Monash University on the recommendation of their President and Monash alumnus, Professor Anthony Collins, the students were impressed by the STARLab facility and the opportunity it provided them to apply theoretical concepts in a practical and dynamic classroom situation.
Study program leader Dr Floyd Ormsbee, from Clarkson University, said the visit allowed students to learn about Australian finance through hands-on experience.
Deputy Head and Director of Teaching in the Department of Marketing, Irene Powell, hosted the students' visit to the Australian Centre for Retail Studies, where they heard about multichannel retailing from Senior Research Consultant Dr Justin Cohen.
Dr Belinda Allen, from the Department of Marketing, spoke to the students about the complexities of Australian human resources practices before the group visited the Clayton campus and were given tours of the Monash Sustainability Institute and the Monash Science Centre.
STARLab is a computer-based system which replicates Australia’s financial institutions using software developed by staff from the Department of Accounting and Finance.
Clarkson University is a partner university with Monash University’s Faculty of Business and Economics.
