2 December 2011
The month of Movember has come to an end, with TeamMONASH™ and universities nationwide winding down in their fight to raise awareness and funds for men’s health.
This year marked the first time Movember undertook the National University Challenge. Monash Sport encouraged all members of the Monash community to participate as part of TeamMONASH™ and seek sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues.
The team has now raised over $11000 for The Prostate Cancer Foundation and Beyond Blue, the national depression initiative since 2003. This result is a great outcome for these prevalent men’s health issues.
TeamMONASH™ would not be where it is in the National University Challenge without its main fundraiser, Mark Ruberto, eSolutions MMC, who has raised over $4000 through his Movember efforts.
“I was originally in my own team with one other individual but then I found TeamMONASH™, so I decided to close my team and join Monash to assist them in the National University Challenge,” Mr Ruberto said.
“It’s been a great month, the team has contributed really well. Our main competitor has been the University of Canberra.”
Monash University is currently in second place in the challenge, trailing behind the University of Canberra by just over $1000. An Associate Degree in Mo-Raising will be awarded to the University team that raises the largest amount of funds.
Movember will be awarding TeamMONASH™ the Bachelor of Mo Cultivation and Appreciation for being the University with the largest number of members.
Participants started on the 1 November with a clean shaven face and used the whole month to grow their moustaches. By beginning freshly shaven, growing their moustaches demonstrated how TeamMONASH™ was helping to raise funds and awareness for Movember partner charities.
There’s still time for TeamMONASH™ to come out in front, with donations being accepted until Wednesday 9 December 2011. All donations assist Monash University raise funds for men’s health issues.
