Attendees will make up their own minds about the role of government in supporting innovation after listening to different perspectives at a Monash University seminar next week.
Speakers at the Monash Asia-Pacific Centre for Science and Wealth Creation seminar will include the former Premier of Victoria and Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow, Monash University and the University of Melbourne, The Honorable John Brumby, editor and writer at the Australian Financial Review, Mr Peter Roberts, and Adjunct Professor at Monash University and Venture Executive, Innovation Capital, Dr Nick Birrell.
Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre for Science and Wealth Creation, Professor Michael Vitale, said each speaker will have a different message about the role of government in supporting innovation, and the extent to which funding and other forms of support need to be considered by the state’s leaders.
“Attendees will become better informed about the various roles that government could play, and support government actions that each individual thinks are appropriate and effective,” Professor Vitale said.
“They will also benefit from networking and discussion with other people interested in this topic.”
The Monash Asia-Pacific Centre for Science and Wealth Creation is committed to helping researchers commercialise leading edge science and technology projects.
The Centre is also involved in teaching the Master of Business (Science and Technology) which provides an opportunity for students from a science or technology background to gain practical business skills for a career in the commercialisation of scientific or technological research.
The Asia-Pacific Centre for Science and Wealth Creation will present ‘What is the Appropriate Role of Government in Supporting Innovation?’ at the Law Building (Building 12), Theatre L1, Clayton campus, from 3-5pm on Wednesday 18 April. There is no charge to attend but please register on the Monash events website.
