Monash University is proudly hosting the annual Emer Casey Foundation Fun Run at its Clayton campus in 2012 to support the Peter MacCallum Centre in aid of ovarian cancer.

Director of Monash Sport, Martin Doulton, said Monash is delighted to host this event for the third year running.

“Monash has been part of the past few years activities, and we at Monash Sport think this is a most worthwhile event. The camaraderie among the participants and support crew is quite unique, with over 30 volunteer students being involved on the day,” Mr Doulton said.

“It is great that such a tremendous amount of money has been raised for this really good cause.”

Every year in Australia around 1500 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and more than 850 women will die from the disease.

In 2011, 250 people ran in the race and raised over $25,000 to support the Peter Mac Foundation’s Cancer Genetics Program and the Kathleen Cunningham Foundation Consortium, both of which focus on research into breast and ovarian cancer.

This is the fifth year the Emer Casey Fun Run has operated in Melbourne, and former World Champion and Olympic silver medallist, Sonia O’Sullivan, is a regular participant.

“Don’t miss this great opportunity to run alongside Sonia O’Sullivan and show your support for this worthy cause,” Mr Doulton said.

“It promises to be a great day out with lots of prizes, music and celebrations.”

The Emer Casey Fun Run will be held on 27 May at Monash University’s Clayton campus. Participants can complete either a 5 or 10km run with registrations opening at 8.30am at Oval 3 on Union Loop road.

Those interested in participating can pre-register online for $20 or on the day for $25. A 10am start is set for the participants of the 10km run and 10.15am start for the 5km.
