Monash University Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor David Copolov, OAM has been re-appointed to the board of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO).
Professor Copolov’s re-appointment was announced yesterday by the Minister for Science and Research, Senator Chris Evans.
“Professor Copolov’s management expertise, combined with experience as a scientific adviser, has proved invaluable to the Board since 2008,” Senator Evans said.
“I congratulate Professor Copolov on the four-year re-appointment and look forward to his contribution as ANSTO continues its vital work as a centre of excellence in nuclear science and technology.”
As Pro Vice-Chancellor (Office of the Vice-Chancellor) at Monash University, Professor Copolov is responsible for providing senior management oversight of student experience activities, the University's Diversity Agenda, Caulfield and Clayton campuses and leadership programs, including the Vice Chancellor’s Ancora Imparo Student Leadership Program. He provides strategic, policy and operational input in relation to capital development, mental health policies, and a variety of cross-portfolio issues that arise within both the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and the Office of the Deputy-Vice Chancellor (Education).
Professor Copolov is a Professor of Psychiatry and Honorary Professor of Physiology at Monash and Professorial Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne. He is also the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute and Chairman of the Research Committee of Forensicare – the State’s forensic psychiatry hospital and institute.
Professor Copolov said he was very pleased to be re-appointed to ANSTO.
"The work that ANSTO carries out in nuclear science and research is of practical relevance to areas as diverse as nuclear medicine, materials science, mining, climate change, pollution analysis and silicon irradiation (used in the production of integrated circuits)," he said.
"I’m pleased that Monash researchers are making good use of the excellent facilities and expertise provided at ANSTO, especially since a formal collaboration was established between our two organisations last year."
ANSTO is home to Australia’s only nuclear research reactor, supporting Australian science and each year provides more than 500,000 patient doses of nuclear medicines to Australians.
