The Monash Motorsport team have achieved another world-first, winning the Australasia Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (F-SAE) Championship for the fourth year in a row.

With their new car, the M12, unveiled just weeks before, the FSAE-A competition proved to be their most challenging year yet.

One of Monash Motorsport’s aerodynamics engineers, Ben Lee, said the M12 faced engine and electrical problems early on.

“However, we proved to be resourceful and overcame our challenges, racing our M12 vehicle to complete the competition with great success,” Mr Lee said.

The team took first place in Design, as well as second in Cost and Business Presentation for static events. The M12 also managed to take first place in Skidpad with a world record time, first place in Autocross and second in Endurance.

“These achievements resulted in Monash Motorsport taking first place once again, with an overall score of 899.4 points out of a possible 1000, resulting in an astounding four-year championship –an achievement rarely seen – and one that we can hardly believe,” Mr Lee said.

“Monash Motorsport would like to take this opportunity to thank their amazing sponsors, who with their ongoing support have made these goals a reality.”

This wasn’t the team’s first success story for 2012: earlier this year Monash Motorsport had a fantastic run at overseas student motorsport competitions, coming third in the Formula Student UK (FSUK) and fourth in the Formula Student Germany (FSG) competitions.

“Consistency over the past few years, on top of our achievements in Europe, has resulted in a current world ranking of second out of 511 teams all over the world – our personal best,” Mr Lee said.
