Monash University has been named host institution of the 2012 Globalization of Pharmaceutics Education Network (GPEN) conference, the first to be held in the Southern Hemisphere in its 16-year history.
Recognising the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences as a world leader in research, teaching and innovation, the GPEN selected Monash to host the international conference, bringing leading pharmaceutical scientists and researchers from around the world to the University’s Parkville campus this week.
The Faculty will welcome more than 270 guests from 52 leading universities across five continents to the biennial GPEN conference, designed to foster and facilitate international scientific exchange in the pharmaceutical sciences.
The program will showcase global pharmaceutical research spanning an array of topics from physical pharmacy, pharmaceutical engineering and materials science to computational and modeling approaches in drug formulation and delivery.
On behalf of the PhD Student Organising Committee, GPEN 2012 Faculty Chair Dr Joseph Nicolazzo and PhD Student Chair Mr Sifei Han said Monash was greatly honoured to act as host of a meeting of this stature.
“At Monash we are privileged to host this major international event, which underlies our Faculty’s commitment to providing students with exposure to international education, research and networking experiences,” Dr Nicolazzo said.
NHMRC Australia Fellow and Professor Nigel Bunnett will deliver the keynote address discussing a latest research program where he and colleagues of the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) are seeking to understand the mechanisms of inflammation that underlie diseases of global relevance.
Monash leads Australia in pharmacy and pharmacology and is ranked sixth-best in the world according to the 2012 QS World University Rankings by subject.
