Monash University is now ranked among the best 100 institutions in the world according to results released today from Times Higher Education magazine.
The University has significantly improved across almost every category, climbing 79 places in just three years to be ranked at 99.
Research success was evident with increases in research volume, income and reputation.
Monash Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Ed Byrne said the University had earned a rightful place in the Top 100.
"The continuous and impressive improvement in rankings, which Monash has shown over the last three years is a reflection of the excellence of our product. That is, the impact and relevance of our research and the quality of our graduates," Professor Byrne said.
"Our talented staff are competing on the world stage in terms of research outcomes and delivering a world-class education to thousands of students. Further, we are building fruitful international links and increasing our engagement with industry.
"The University's ranking as one of the world's select institutions is well-deserved."
Editor-at-Large and Rankings Editor with Times Higher Education, Phil Baty, said the Top 100 of World University Rankings represented just 0.5 per cent of the world's higher education institutions.
"To have joined this global elite group is an extraordinary achievement, especially as competition for the top places is intensifying each year, with huge investment in higher education in many Asian countries," Mr Baty said.
"Times Higher Education's World University Rankings use 13 separate performance indicators, across the full range of a university's activities, including teaching, as well as research, internationalisation and knowledge transfer, so a high score in our rankings is a true indicator of all-round achievement."
Monash has performed strongly in the three major international university rankings in recent years. In the QS World Rankings, the University is rated at 61 and, earlier this year, it achieved its best ever result of 137 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, compiled by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
