Monash has established a partnership with Smiling Mind, a not-for-profit that has created an iPhone app and website designed to make mindfulness meditation more widely accessible to people of all ages.
Dr Richard Chambers, a consultant in Mindfulness Programs at Monash, is the content developer for Smiling Mind. Monash is also currently evaluating the effectiveness of the Smiling Mind program across 20 primary and secondary schools around Australia, with the aim of embedding mindfulness in the core Victorian school curriculum by 2020.
Monash is a world leader in mindfulness training in tertiary education, offering a range of free mindfulness programs for both staff and students, including Mindfulness for Academic Success (MAS) and Mindfulness At Work (M@W).
Together with free drop-in meditation sessions on each campus, the University is embedding mindfulness in the core curriculum, starting with the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program. Find out more about about Monash Mindfulness programs.
During Survival Week 2013, Monash will officially launch Smiling Mind on all Australian campuses, as a resource for students and staff. On Wednesday 27 March, there will be a Flash Meditation (FlashMed) session at 1pm to launch the program at the Airport Lounge in building 10 at Clayton. There will be associated events at the same time on the Caulfield and Parkville campuses.
All Monash students and staff are invited to attend FlashMed. Questions can be answered and promotional material obtained at the Smiling Mind booth on site.
