The Monash Health Translation Precinct (MHTP) Medical Genomics Facility and the Monash Animal Research Platform (MARP) were the joint winners of the Outstanding Monash Technology Research Platform Award.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Research Training), Professor Ian Smith, conferred the award earlier this month.

“This award recognises the importance the Monash research technology platforms play in driving research outcomes, talent recruitment and industry engagement,” Professor Smith said.

“The achievements and levels of excellence that these platforms have accomplished is a direct reflection of their high-quality leadership and management.”

The MHTP Medical Genomics Facility, managed by Ms Vivien Vasic, provides a range of enabling genomics services including DNA sequencing.

“Vivien has led the Medical Genomics Facility to an outstanding level of quality assurance by achieving NATA accreditation. She has also secured funding to expand the facility to offer a comprehensive suite of state of the art clinical genomics services,” Professor Smith said.

As Director of the facility, Dr John Phelps accepted the award on behalf of MARP.

“The award recognises an extraordinary job in consolidating our once dispersed animal services and implementing management systems to improve efficiencies and service delivery,” Professor Smith said.

Six facilities were shortlisted for honourable mention in the award: Centre for Drug Candidate Optimisation (MIPS), Micromon, Monash eResearch Centre, Monash Biomedical Imaging, Monash Histology Platform and Monash Centre for Electron Microscopy.
