Do you know a Monash student who could make a difference to the lives of Indigenous high school students?
Monash is proud to be a partner of the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME), which is currently calling for volunteers.
AIME’s dynamic educational program gives Indigenous high school students the skills, opportunities, belief and confidence to finish school at the same rate as every other Australian student. It offers Monash students a great volunteering opportunity and a chance to be part of this exciting national initiative.
AIME began in Redfern with 25 University of Sydney students in a casual meeting with 25 Indigenous high school students. Eight years later, the program has been implemented at more than 100 schools and 10 university sites in three states. It is helping to close the education gap, with AIME mentees finishing school at almost the same rate as other Australian children.
AIME Communications and Operations Manager Ella Colley said the smallest amount of promotion would help raise awareness of the programs.
"All Monash students are encouraged to apply to become mentors," Ms Colley said.
"If you are able to connect your students with AIME by sending out some information or allowing an AIME staff member to present to students for five minutes at the beginning of a class, it could help us make a difference for future students."
For more information, contact Ella Colley at ec@aimementoring.com and visit the Monash AIME information page. Applications are open until the end of March.
