Fighting child abuse and neglectProfessor Chris Goddard is a leading advocate for greater protection for vulnerable children and has been successful in raising awareness about the extent and nature of child abuse in Australia.
Professor Goddard's research into the deficiencies of the Victorian child protection system in the 1990s led to the introduction of mandatory reporting of suspected cases of child abuse. In 2004 Professor Goddard established the National Research Centre for the Prevention of Child Abuse, a joint initiative between the Australian Childhood Foundation and the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. The Centre receives substantial funding from philanthropic organisations and is currently undertaking research into child abuse and poverty, child abuse and disability, emotional and psychological abuse and issues around children born of chemically-dependant parents. His background and expertise on child abuse and child protection makes him one of Australia's most sought after commentators and opinion writers. More information |
