Victoria’s highest achieving Year 12 students have been offered Scholarships for Excellence, worth up to $15,000 annually, for study at Monash in 2012.
Monash University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Ed Byrne, will present students with their scholarship offers at a ceremony today in Melbourne. This will include students who have achieved a perfect Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 99.95.
More than 200 students who achieved an ATAR above 95 have been offered faculty-specific scholarships and Scholarships for Excellence and Equity valued at $6,000 per annum.
Eligible students received an SMS advising of their scholarship offer this morning. Together with their families, they have been invited to attend the exclusive event where they will be personally congratulated and presented with a certificate of offer from Professor Byrne.
High-achieving students who are financially disadvantaged or from an Indigenous background will also be invited to join the Vice-Chancellor’s Access Monash Scholars program which offers a guaranteed offer to their course of choice on having met any pre-requisites or extra requirements.
“We recognise how hard these students have worked to achieve their excellent academic results. It’s a pleasure to be able to acknowledge their success,” Professor Byrne said.
Demand for Monash University courses has remained strong in 2012, with Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) data showing that just under 25 per cent of Victorian school leavers chose Monash as their first preference for study.
“Students are selecting Monash University because it offers a world-class education experience. They recognise high-quality teaching and resources which provide the foundation for achieving their career aspirations,” Professor Byrne said.
“The diversity of courses available, combined with the flexibility to personalise programs by undertaking double-degrees is a drawcard, as is the range of exchange programs available to Monash students.”
Professor Byrne said the University will offer more than 2000 scholarships and bursaries as part of a coursework scholarships program worth over $13 million in 2012. Half of these will be offered to Indigenous students, students from regional and remote areas in Australia, and to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“The scholarship program forms just one component of the University’s commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities to all our students. Access to our prestigious professional degrees is a student passport to increased choice and opportunity,” Professor Byrne said.
