Monash University has today congratulated the 9248 students granted a first round offer to study at the University this year.
In the first year of demand-driven funding, first round offers made by Monash through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre increased by 7.6 per cent on 2011 figures.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Adam Shoemaker said the University was delighted with the strength and quality of demand during the first-round selection period.
"The increase in first round offers reflects strong demand for Monash courses and the University’s decision to increase commencing numbers in response to the Australian Government’s aim of widening participation in tertiary education," Professor Shoemaker said.
The continued overall growth was reflected at the faculty level, with many faculties increasing their offers by over ten per cent.
Demand for the Monash Bachelor of Science rose, with first round offers increasing by 9.6 per cent and the clearly-in Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank also increasing in 2012.
Demand for double degrees was particularly strong, with first round offers increasing by 8.7 per cent between 2011 and 2012.
Monash University is Australia's largest university, with six campuses in metropolitan and regional Victoria, campuses in Malaysia and South Africa, and a centre in Prato, Italy.
