Higher education after the election

The direction of Australia's higher education policy following this Saturday's federal election will be discussed tonight at a seminar being hosted by the Monash Centre for Research in International Education (MCRIE).
'What happens to internationalisation after the election' - is the final of four seminars in the Monash University series Higher education policy in advance of the next Australian Federal election. The series, which involves leading commentators on higher education in Australia, is aimed at exploring the potential policy changes that may occur following this year's election.
The final seminar will be chaired by Professor Sue Willis, dean of the Education faculty at Monash. Presenters will include: Professor Glyn Davis, vice-chancellor, Griffith University; Mr Ali Abusalem, national education officer of the National Liaison Council (NLC) for International Students in Australia and Professor Simon Marginson, director, Centre for Research in International Education, Monash University.
Professor Davis has been vice-chancellor of Griffith University since January 2002. He was previously director-general of the Department of Premier and Cabinet in Queensland and a member of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. During several secondments from Griffith, he has held a range of senior Queensland government posts including director-general of the Office of the Cabinet from 1995 to 1996, and Commissioner for Public Sector Equity with the Public Sector Management Commission in 1990.
Mr Abusalem represents the NLC, which is the peak representative body for international students in Australia. The NLC works closely with the key stakeholders in the Australian international education industry toward continuously improving the provision education and support services for international students.
Professor Marginson comments on education studies at the intersection of political economy and cultural analysis. The main focuses of his research are higher education studies, comparative and international education in the context of globalisation, political economy of education, education policy and management.
