Community newspaper conference an Australian first

More than 70 people from across the state will attend what is believed to be Australia's first community newspaper conference at Monash University's Gippsland campus starting Friday, 19 November.

The two-day conference, 'Communicating the Community: The Role of Community Newspapers' will include an award ceremony and a forum for discussions on how community newspapers can continue to play a meaningful role in future community development.

The conference will begin with an awards dinner on Friday night followed by a day-long conference including lectures, workshops, forums and panel presentations.

Award-winning journalist and environment writer for The Age newspaper, Melissa Fyfe will be the keynote speaker.
